Sitting Woman
I live and work in Cardiff, South Wales. I have been in this area for the past twenty five years. I have brought up my family of five children here. Whilst they were growing up I taught in Welsh Nurseries and then worked as a supply teacher in primary in Cardiff and Caerphilly, before deciding to develop my interest in art into a major challenge. I began with drawing classes, went on to do a foundation, BA, and MA. I teach life drawing and portraiture at Llanover Hall, a community Arts Centre.
I explore feelings and sensations, examining the moulding of the female form through issues that conform, constrict and represent the body. My work deals with ideas of beauty. It magnetically draws in or repels the viewer through the encounter with surface or tactility. Drawing is integral to my practise.
I tend to work in 3-D, using clay and plaster but also consolidate the form in 2-D, drawing the way the body communicates through visual language. I have recently been exploring through photography, film, and installations.
